Towards a More Effective Consumer Policy in Serbia

European Policy Centre was selected for Think and Link – Regional Policy Programme within the Envisioning Europe Programme Strand of the European Fund for the Balkans with the research proposal Towards a More Effective Consumer Policy in Serbia: Improvement of the Legal and Institutional Framework for Effective Consumer Protection.

The main goal of the proposed research was to analyse the first results of the application and enforcement of the provisions of the new Law on Consumer Protection (LCP) in practice and to verify whether and in what manner the legal protection of a Serbian consumer has improved as the consequence of the new Law. LCP was passed by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on October 12, 2010 and its application commenced on January 1, 2011. Project placed strong emphasis on the role, capacities and obstacles in the work of the consumer organisations in Serbia in the light of the more significant role they should play in legal enforcement according to the new LCP.
