For this reason, it is high time that Serbian authorities recognise the problem of persisting high income inequality and adopt adequate measures to tackle it properly. Inequality mitigation is not an easy job nor a quick process, but the present situation calls for urgent action on this issue. Increased equity can bode well for the life of Serbian citizens and, also, for the country’s prospects of EU membership. Therefore, Serbia should undertake reforms of its tax system, labour market, and education system as part of a broader set of policies for the purpose of overall economic development.
Inequality is often considered a social issue even when it is clearly more than that; it, in fact, has severe economic consequences for greater society.
