Serbia is facing serious challenges in the field of environmental protection and harmonizing its standards with those of the European Union.

Public administration in Serbia faces numerous challenges and difficulties, some of which are reflected in the lack of capacity, but some also in the reluctance of the Government and the administration to adapt to new demands.

In order to ensure a healthy environment and full compliance with EU standards, Serbia has to face significant challenges in terms of financing environmental protection, especially at the local level.

The lack of gender parity in managerial positions in both the private and public sectors in almost all European countries indicates the persistence of a range of structural, legal, and social barriers which continue to negatively affect women’s promotion and participation in positions of power.

An essential element of the new Strategy is gender impact assessment or in other words gender analysis of policies, measures and programmes.

Within the EU integration process, Serbia has to comply with the minimum EU standards pertaining to environmental assessment of industrial and infrastructural projects, as well as planning documents.

If Serbia is to approach European Union accession as a process of becoming a capable and credible member state and not simply as a project of achieving membership status, it will need to thoroughly reform its policy making system.

How to get the results in public policy? Is civil society in Serbia able to contribute by engaging in monitoring and evaluation processes?
