Serbia at the Crossroads between the West and the East

The project was implemented by CEP from December 2019 to November 2020. The focus is on the issue of increased involvement of non-EU actors, such as China, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and the Gulf countries, both in political and economic terms. As these countries are known for the lack of emphasis on democratic institutions and rule of law standards, the question is whether and to what extent can their values and methods of governance translate to Serbia, and thus how it impacts Serbian economic development and does it hinder its accession process to the EU. Therefore, this project aimed to support Serbia’s EU perspective by encouraging re-thinking of its existing position vis-à-vis the non-EU actors.

The project was funded by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), whereas the coordination was done with KAS Office responsible for Serbia and Montenegro.
