The EU Council Presidency: Taking Care of the Union in turbulent times

German Presidency came in at a most difficult time for the EU, with the pandemic confounding its priorities and ambitions. On the top of that, the long expected Multi-annual Financial Framework and the Recovery fund are being blocked by certain member states due to the attached rule of law conditionality. The enlargement policy is suffering another crisis, as Albania and North Macedonia are not managing to secure unanimous support among EU member states for their promised start of accession negotiations. Nevertheless, there were some positive achievements that went under the radar and promise to give the light at the end of the tunnel. This panel discussion will address the results of the German Presidency and the plans of the Portuguese, with particular focus on Serbia and the Western Balkans.
