The European project is work in progress. It has been since the onset of the integration process. What makes it stand out is the fact it keeps reinventing itself in the face of new challenges. In that regard, 2021 is a case in point that Europe is at another crossroads, particularly as the global order is becoming more dynamic and complex, all while the citizens of Europe are faced with dilemmas on how to address issues such as the pan-demic, hybrid threats, migration, and the phenomenon of fake news. Change can understandably cause some people to feel uneasy or even fearful; however, it also creates opportunities to not only explore ways to deepen the cooperation in existing fields but also to explore new heights. In such a context, the Conference on the Future of Europe (CotFoE) provides European citizens with a good opportunity to voice their concerns and to take an active role in shaping the decision-making process.
The concept of EUROPE COMPLETE extends beyond the European Union as it also envisions the Western Balkans as an essential piece of the European puzzle. By indicating that the Western Balkans can be a credible partner on whom the EU can rely on in both times of peace and crisis, we want to usher the path to discussions on how best to accelerate intra-European integration. The fact that this event is registered at the Portal of the CotFoE, the online and multilingual hub of the CotFoE, marks a step forward in erasing the divisions and distance between the EU and the Western Balkans.
The Conference will feature following keynote speakers:
- Srđan Majstorović, Chairman of Governing Board, CEP Belgrade
- H.E. Emanuele Giaufret, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia
- H.E. Damjan Bergant, Ambassador of Slovenia to Serbia (TBC)
- Janis Emmanouilidis, Director of Studies, EPC, Brussels
…as well as 17 experts from both the Western Balkans and the EU, who will discuss topics tackled by four panels:
- Towards a Model of a Phased Membership?
- Boosting European Strategic Autonomy
- Busting the Myths – Making Enlargement a Win-Win Situation
- European Youth: Addressing Digital Challenges
The working language of the event will be English. The event will be broadcasted on the CEP Facebook page.
